Crafters, artists and shop owners in the Topaz, Coleville and Walker area will join Saturday to offer the first Topaz Christmas Shopping Treasure Hunt.
Along with gifts for sale, some of the money collected will go directly to help support Kids and Horses Therapeutic Riding Center in Minden.
Kids and Horses, founded in 1999 by Sam Waldman, offers horsemanship as a means of therapy to improve strength, balance, coordination and self-esteem. Kids and Horses is an accredited member of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association and the only accredited riding center in Nevada.
To participate in the Treasure Hunt, begin at Topaz Lodge and Casino and pay a $10 entry fee, which will go directly to Kids and Horses. Starting time is 9 to 11 a.m. Shoppers will receive a souvenir map of the area with all the numbered stops.
Each stop must be signed off in order to qualify for one of several prizes, including a romantic one-night stay at the Atlantis Hotel for two in a spa room, including dinner; a recliner from JM Furniture in Carson City; and two $100 cash prizes provided by the El Dorado in Reno. A raffle for more prizes will take place at the Topaz Lodge in the evening. Proceeds from the raffle go to Kids and Horses.
Stops along the Treasure Hunt route will include Sonny and Liz's Birdhouses, Coleville Inn Antiques, Mary's Lit'l Gift Shop at Meadowcliff Lodge, The Crafty Needle and Tole, 3 Flags Trading Post, Flowers by Dianne, Sweetwater Shops, Maggie's Place, Home Run Pizza, High Country Sketches, Metal Mouse Graphics and Mystic Candles.
Hunters must return to Topaz Lodge by 5 p.m. to validate maps and for the raffles and entertainment.
Entertainment starts at 6 p.m. by John Tyson and Richard Elloyan.
