120 YEARS AGO

John S. Wilder of the firm of Wilder, Bowes & Co., Chicago, has been up to the lake several times during the summer looking for a site for a new hotel to be erected by Chicago capitalists. He thinks Emerald Bay is the site. The company will also put a new boat on the lake capable of carrying at least 200 passengers, to make a circuit of the lake twice a day.

100 YEARS AGO

After many years of absence, Dick Jose, known in Carson as "Our Dick" passed up the road with his charming wife, who before her marriage to him was Miss Theresa Shieves. Dick began his career as a singer in Carson and has gone into the world to make fame and fortune. Operatic tenors cannot reach the notes which Jose takes with ease.

70 YEARS AGO

Carson Flower Shop has moved into new and larger quarters at 316 S. Carson St., next door to the Capital Mortuary. It now carries groceries, bread, pies, cakes and candy under manager E.H. Douglas.

50 YEARS AGO

Nevada Tax Commission appoints John R. Ross legal advisor and he has agreed to give up all gaming clients. Chairman John Cory of the Nevada Industrial Commission appointed Richard Hanna as legal advisor. The posts pay $5,000 a year.

20 YEARS AGO

Business license increase which would increase city revenues by $23,000 a year was ordered by the board of supervisors, as a result of an ad hoc chamber of commerce committee. Three dollars a head for first 100 employees with $2.50 thereafter.

10 YEARS AGO

Michael A. Lombard III, a Carson City resident for the past 18 years, recently presented the Carson City Library with his commemorative portrait of John Wayne. He is owner of Custom Framing and worked briefly with renowned artist Andrew Saar.
