A service for Atilio Gino "Gene" Cotichelli, 80, a Minden resident for the past 19 years, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hilltop Community Church, 3616 N. Sunridge Drive.
Burial will be Friday at the Fernley Veterans Cemetery with a full color guard and 21-gun salute to commemorate his World War II service as an Iwo Jima Marine surviving the invasion and having to assume command of his unit. He received a Purple Heart.
Mr. Cotichelli died Nov. 15, 2003, at the veterans hospital in Reno.
He was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Easton, Pa., to Julie and Ersilia Brochinni Cotichelli.
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Oxford, Conn.
He married Helen Joanne on Nov. 11, 1943, in Derby, Conn. She preceded him in death Jan. 2, 1977, in Sunnyvale, Calif.
Mr. Cotichelli was a mold maker and owned Gram Cot Tool and Die Co. in Derby.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter Jean Clair Dempsey on June 24, 1977.
Among his survivors are his children Joanna Jones-Reed of Palos Verdes, Calif., Robert and Julius of Concan,Texas, and Richard Gene of Houston; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
