A memorial service for Ruth Sue Pfeiffer, 77, a Carson City resident for the past 24 years, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Family, 1201 N. Saliman St.

Mrs. Pfeiffer died Jan. 30, 2004, at home. She was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Minneapolis to Joseph and Anne Olsavsky. She was raised and educated in Lakewood, Ohio.

She graduated from Fairview Park School of Nursing in 1947. She moved to Oakland, Calif., in 1955, and worked for Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, retiring in 1969.

She married Bruce on Feb. 28, 1958, and they worked in Instant Printing San Francisco.

She was active in St. Paul's Lutheran Family, Carson-Tahoe Hospital Auxiliary and Xi Omega Chapter Beta Sigma Phi. She was an amateur radio operator and active in the Sierra Intermountain Emergency Radio Association and Tahoe Amateur Radio Association, providing emergency communications.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward; sisters Francis McCrory of Lakewood and Dorothy Upton Louisville, Ky.; and stepdaughter, Jane Kane of Princeton, N.J.

Among her survivors are her husband of more than 45 years; stepson, Bruce Jr. of Vermont; four nieces; and four nephews.
