Carson City

Dozen wild horses up for adoption from prison

Six horses from lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management and six horses under the jurisdiction of the state of Nevada will be offered for adoption at the Warm Springs Correctional Center on Saturday. Gates open at 9 a.m., and a competitive-bid adoption conducted by an auctioneer begins at 10 a.m.

Each of the horses range from - to 6 years old, saddle trained with 90 days of training, and vary in weight and color. The beginning bid on all horses is $150.

A handout of BLM wild horses and Nevada state "estray" horses offered for the adoption can be viewed at www.nv.blm.gov/prison_horses or www.silverstateindustries.com. Copies of the handout are also available at BLM offices in Reno and Carson City.

Ticket sales to win truck benefit Little League

Dick Campagni's Family of Auto Dealerships donated a Toyota Tundra four-wheel drive truck to be raffled off Father's Day. The truck will be displayed today at JJ's Ear Candy on Winnie Lane and Saturday morning at Green House Garden Center. All proceeds help Carson City Little League.

Lions serving up brunch to help Meals on Wheels

The Carson City Host Lions Club will hold its annual Benefit Brunch for the Meals on Wheels program from 8-10 a.m. Saturday.

Held at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive, the menu includes french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, coffee, tea and orange juice.

After the brunch, free bingo will be played from 10-11 a.m. with cash prizes to be awarded. Food for the benefit will be donated by the Carson City Host Lions Club. Cost for seniors and children 11-younger is $3, non-seniors 59-younger is $4. For information, call 883-0703.

Davis Creek

Kids' fishing derby sponsored by Elks

Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 presents Tommy's annual Fishing Derby for Kids ages 2-12 from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday at Davis Creek Park. Bring the family and join in the fun. Registration is from 8:30 -9 a.m. with fishing from 9-11 a.m. Each child gets a prize. Hot dogs and hamburgers are free for contestants and their families. Phone the lodge for information at 882-2177.
