Walling named league player of year

Douglas High's Chad Walling was named as the Sierra League's Player of the Year in baseball to lead a large contingent of Tiger and Carson High players who were named to the all-league teams in baseball and softball.


Along with Walling, Douglas teammates Tyson Estes, Spike Agosta, D.J. Brady, Jimmy Pierce, Roman Davis and Phil Mannelly were all named to the all-Sierra League first team. Named to the first team for Carson were Murph Gardner, Logan Parsley and Brooks Greenlee.


Named to the second team for Carson were Royal Good, Kevin Schlange, Adam Anderson and Mike Teixeira. Named to the second team for Douglas was Chris Balcolm. Honorable mention choices were Kyle Mandoki, Derek Shoaf and Jeremiah Teeter for Carson and Kyle Luken of Douglas.


In softball, Carson's Liz Rankl and Mandy Carvin were named to the first team while Kayla Dunn, Val Smith and Lauren Hoppe were named to the first team for Douglas. Named to the second team were Carson's Jessica Ashbaugh and Dacey Hassey and Jessie Kizer of Douglas.


Honorable mention choices were Carson's Robyn Conn and Tisha Luken and Skylar Zulian of Douglas. Despite resigning near the end of the season, Jim Puzey of Douglas was named as co-coach of the year along with Reno High's Jim Pace.
