Carson City


Library begins spring storytimes


The Carson City Library Youth Department begins its spring session of storytimes on Tuesday. Latecomers will not be admitted, so come early. Free admission tickets are required for some programs and will be available at the youth desk prior to each program.


Preschool storytime, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m., is a 30-minute storytime for children ages three to five who are independent enough to listen to stories while their parent is out of the room.


Toddler Lapsit, for ages 2 to 3 on Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. incorporates adult-child interaction. Each child must be accompanied by one adult. Free admission tickets are required.


Family storytime on Fridays at 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. is appropriate for families with more than one child. No day-care centers. Preschoolers and young elementary students are welcome. Free admission tickets are required.

Buddhist groups meet in Carson City


Two Buddhist practicing groups are meeting in Carson City, Dharma Zephyr Sangha, which meets from 7-9 p.m. on Mondays at Sun Mountain Yoga Studio, 308 N. Plaza St., and West Wind Sangha, which meets from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at First United Methodist Church Multipurpose Room, 213 N. Minnesota St.

'Swing for a Cure' golf tournament open for registration


The 2006 Sharkey Begovich Swing for a Cure Golf Tournament will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 13 at the Carson Valley Golf Club in Gardnerville. There will be golf, food, fun beverages and an awards dinner. Sponsorships and team packages are available.

Bowers Mansion seeks summer help


Applications are now being accepted for part-time summer employment at Bowers Mansion Regional Park and other park facilities. Seasonal jobs include park aid guides, lifeguards, senior lifeguards, and aquatics supervisors. Lifeguard training and recertification is available.

Retired public employees of Calif. group to meet


The California Retired Public Employees Association of Northern Nevada will hold it's bi-monthly luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Denney's Restaurant at 205 E. Nugget Ave. in Sparks. The speaker will be Philip Shapiro, owner of Promenade on the River.


No reservations are necessary and participants need not be members. All retired California state, county, and city personnel, and teachers, are welcome. Call 674-6449.
