The Nevada Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection issued the following consumer advisory regarding timeshare retail scams.

• Be wary of any timeshare reseller who asks for a fee up-front without guarantee of sale. If it were a real operation, the fee would be deducted from the sale price.

• Do not give out your bank account information, your bank routing number, your credit card number, or a copy of the deed until you have had a chance to check out the company.

• Never agree to anything over the phone.

• If it sounds too good, it is.

• Check to see if the company is a licensed broker, and call the Better Business Bureau to see if there have been complaints.

• Ask to be sent written materials to study before you make a decision. Always have your attorney review anything before signing it.

If you have been the victim of a timeshare scam, call the Bureau of Consumer Protection in Carson City at 684-1180 or go to www.ag.state.nv.us.
