According to a recent press release by the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), it is seeking volunteers to assist in a nature trail clean up on Saturday, August 26, from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.
The half-mile Verdi Nature Trail wanders through beautiful upland habitat important for mule deer, cottontails, coyote, California quail, and many more.
Volunteers will enjoy the peaceful surroundings while helping to clear the trail of invasive weeds like bull thistle and fire-prone cheat grass, as well as other vegetation.
Volunteers are asked to bring their own work gloves, sunscreen, and any helpful tools that could lend to the task (hoes, shovels, mattocks, sheers, pruners, weed eaters). Limited tools will be available.
Water, drinks and snacks will be provided.
The nature trail is adjacent to the Verdi Community Library and Nature Center on Bridge Street in Verdi.
To get there from 1-80 west, take the Verdi Exit 5. Follow old Highway 40 2.2 miles and turn right onto Bridge Street. The Verdi Nature Trail parking lot is just past the Verdi Elementary School, on the right.
The Verdi Nature Trail was created through a partnership between the Washoe County School District, Washoe County Libraries and Nevada Department of Wildlife.
