The application deadline for grants for the Commission of Cultural Affairs is Oct. 2. The grant supports rehabilitation of historic buildings to be used as cultural centers. Carson City


Street Tree Program accepting applications


The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department and the Carson City Shade Tree Council are accepting applications for the Fall 2006 planting of the Street Tree Program in Carson City. This program was introduced in 2001 to promote and enhance the urban forest within the community. A property owner can apply to have trees planted within the designated city right-of-way. The deadline is Sept. 15. For information call 887-2115.




BAC to hold two improv workshops for all ages


The Brewery Arts Center is offering two improv workshops. Improv Kids is for children and will highlight "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"- style improv shows. Beginners and intermediates ages 10 and up will be held from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 3, 5, 9, 11 and 13 and from 9:30 a.m.-noon Oct. 7. Advanced classes, which includes musical improv, will be held from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 2, 4, 6, 10 and 12 and from 1-3:30 p.m. Oct. 7. Cost is $30 per participant. Show dates are Oct. 13-14 at 7 p.m., with seats costing $5.


The improv workshop for adults runs Oct. 2 and 6 from 7-9:30 p.m. Cost for the workshop is $30 per participant. A showcase performance will be held Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. Cost is $5.

Carson River Advisory meeting canceled


The Carson River Advisory Committee meeting scheduled Sept. 6 has been canceled.


The group's next scheduled meeting will be Oct. 4.


Reno/Sparks


RTC offers rib cook-off, Labor Day service


RTC RIDE Route 11 will be offering daily express service from downtown Reno to Victorian Square in Sparks for the "Best in the West" Rib Cook-Off.


Passengers can purchase a 24-hour pass for unlimited transportation on board busses or at any pass-vending machine at CitiCenter.


RTC will also be offering special service schedules Monday for Labor Day. RTC RIDE will run on a Sunday schedule.


RTC Intercity between Reno and Carson City will run on a regular weekday schedule. Sierra Spirit, the free downtown bus service, will run on a Monday schedule.


The RTC business offices will be closed Monday.

Lake Tahoe


Adult ice hockey team being formed at South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena


The South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena is hosting a fall hockey league for all abilities of adults and is accepting applications.


There will be evening games September through December.


The arena also offers skills and drills clinics and drop-in hockey.
