October means tea time at Roberts House


The Roberts House Museum Tea Ladies announced a tea for noon Oct. 7.


The Roberts House is at 1207 N. Carson St. Cost of the tea is $15 per person and includes scones with toppings, fresh fruit, tea sandwiches and more.

Unity in the Community blood drive this week


The United Blood Services Center's second annual Unity in the Community Executive Blood Drive is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the center, 256 E. Winnie Lane. Lunch will be served at noon. 'People of the Marsh' shown at State Museum


The Nevada State Museum's Frances Humphrey Lecture Series will present the documentary "People of the Marsh," which details the lives and culture of the Paiute and Western Shoshone peoples.


The screening takes place at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Nevada State Museum.

Children's Museum to hold Spanish classes


The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada will be holding Spanish language classes for young children starting Oct. 5.


From 1-2 p.m. Thursdays 4-to-6-year-olds will be tutored, and from 4-5 p.m. Thursdays classes will be held for 6-to-8-year-olds. Tuition for this 10-week class is $80 and includes crafts, prizes, handouts and other class materials.


Class size is limited.

Brewery to offer adult improv-acting class


The Brewery Arts Center is offering an Improv Workshop for adults at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St.


Join in for a weeklong workshop with Gerry Orton to explore improvisational theatre and learn improv games and workouts. The week will highlight a "Who's Line Is It Anyway" style improv show in which audience participation is encouraged.


Workshop dates are Monday-Oct. 6 from 7-9:30 p.m. Workshop cost is $30 per participant. A showcase performance by students will be 7 p.m. Oct. 7. All seats are $5. Call 887-0438 to sign up.

Republican candidates gathering Oct. 17 in Lyon


The Fernley Republican Women have invited all Republican candidates, at the state, county and local levels to attend a meet and greet from 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 17 at Fernley City Hall, 595 Silver Lace Boulevard.


Coffee and dessert will be served. All interested voters Republican, Democrat, Independent are urged to attend.
