The Carson High girls basketball team was able to pull out a 46-45 win over Acalanes of Lafayette, Calif., to advance to the semifinals of the Sapphire division in the West Coast Jamboree at Pittsburgh, Calif.
Danielle Peacon scored with 45 seconds left to give the Senators a 46-45 lead and Carson was able to hold on. "We showed a lot of composure," Carson assistant coach Ron Tamori said.
Kaitlin Burroughs hit two three pointers and Morgan Nuckolls made a steal and fed Brandi Vega for a layup as Carson took a 16-12 lead after the first quarter. Christa Casci hit two threes, Cassie Vondrak scored on a putback and Megan Kilty scored off of an inbound to give Carson a 26-18 lead. But then Acalanes went on a 15-0 run to take a 33-28 halftime lead.
Carson came back to tie the score 38-38 after three quarters when Kilty made a steal and scored at the buzzer. Sarah Evans scored twice to give the Senators a 42-38 lead. After Acalanes hit a three to take a 45-44 lead, Peacon scored her game-winner.
Kilty scored 10 points, Casci had eight points, Peacon had eight points and nine rebounds and Vega and Burroughs each added six points. Anna Macquarie also had eight rebounds.
"She did a real good job on defense and getting the rebounds," said Tamori about Macquarie.
Carson will play Vandenberg Air Force Base of Fairfield, Calif., in today's semifinal.
"They look like a pretty good team," Tamori said. "We're going to have our hands full."

Yvonne Hollett scored 15 points and Tiffany O'Day went 6-for-6 from the floor to score 12 points for Carson in the State Farm Tournament.
Loretta Cagle added five rebounds. Carson will play in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. today against Reno High at Damonte Ranch.

Terralyn Tiffer scored six points and Kendra Krupp, Natalie Morrow and Hannah Shaw all added five points in the State Farm Tournament. Carson advanced to a 10:45 a.m. semifinal game today at Damonte Ranch.
