Man sought in at least $10,000 worth of bad checks

Carson City investigators are looking for an Idaho man suspected of cashing several fraudulent checks over the past two weeks.

Brett Allen Remick, 50, is wanted for questioning after deputies served a search warrant Wednesday on a room rented in Remick's name at the Plaza Hotel.

A computer, typewriter, blank-check forms and other check-making equipment along with "tons of porn" and clothing were allegedly discovered during the search, according to police reports. Remick's vehicle was also impounded in the search warrant.

"He left everything and it looks like he left in a hurry," said Detective Dave Legros.

Legros said Remick, with the help of locals, allegedly created and cashed at least 10 fraudulent checks from a fictitious company named Sunset Distribution out of Nampa, Idaho. Those 10 checks totaled between $8,000 and $10,000.

The checks were cashed at the Piñon Plaza in Remick's name and the names: Milo Cook, Matthew Gigantino, Michael Gomez and Stephanie Zambrano.

It appears he recruited locals to cash the checks and would give them 10 to 15 percent of the proceeds, said Legros.

He said it's likely Remick also cashed checks at other casinos in town, but they have not been reported yet.

Remick is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, with brown eyes and thinning brown hair. He holds a commercial driver's license out of Idaho and is wanted in Idaho on felony warrants on suspicion of drug trafficking.
