Carson girls fall in tournament semifinals

The Carson High girls basketball team ran into a strong opponent in a 73-45 loss to Vanden of Fairfield, Calif., on Friday in the semifinals of the Sapphire division at the West Coast Jamboree in Pittsburgh, Calif.

"We struggled from the start," Carson coach Ric Garcia said. "They were a solid team. They're just a good team.

"Well coached. Good shooters, good inside post players. They had the whole package."

Carson was able to close the gap to eight points late in the second quarter, but could become no closer. Danielle Peacon scored 14 points, Cassie Vondrak had eight points and Brandi Vega added six points for Carson, which plays for third place at 6 p.m. today against Ponderosa, Calif.

RENO 53, CARSON JVS 48

Carson outscored Reno High 32-22 in the second half but couldn't quite pull off the comeback in the State Farm Tournament semifinals. Emily Field scored 14 points, Krista Mattice had eight points, Yvonne Hollett had seven points, Belen Munoz ahd seven points and five rebounds and Tiffany O'Day added five rebounds. Carson willl play in the third place game at 4:15 p.m. today at Damonte Ranch.

LOWRY 35, CHS FROSH 24

Yadira Duarte scored seven points, Marcela Watson had six points and Hannah Shaw added four points in the loss for Carson at the State Farm Tournament. Carson will play in the third place game at 4:15 p.m. today at Damonte Ranch.
