Yerington has four state champions, takes third

Four Yerington High wrestlers won titles to help the Lions to a third place finish at the NIAA 3A State Championships on Saturday in Boulder City.

Daniel Bauer (152 pounds), Stephen Skroch (171), Ryan Gilmore (215) and Tommy Gutierrez (heavyweight) all won titles for Yerington. Jeremy Stanfield also won a title at 189 for Dayton.

Spring Creek won the team title with 163 points. Lowry edged Yerington for second 114.5-108. Other local wrestlers who placed at state were:

112 - Travis Wade, second, Dayton. 119 - Kevin Martinez, second, Fernley; Jacob Cassell, fourth, Fernley. 130 - Brandon Frunk, third, Fernley. 140 - Doug Kornegay, fourth, Fernley. 145 - Dustin Maguin, second, Fernley.

152 - Lannan Ryan, fourth, Fernley.

152 pounds -- 1st, Daniel Bauer, Yer; 2nd, Daniel Biggs, BC; 3rd, Tyrel Ferguson, SC; 4th, Lannan Ryan, Fernley. 189 - Sean Watson, third, Yerington. Heavyweight - Sam Armstrong, second, Dayton.
