Yerington takes third in wrestling

Appeal Staff Report

The Yerington and Fernley High wrestling teams had impressive efforts at the Northern 3A Championships on Saturday in Winnemucca.

Yerington took third with 169 points, finishing behind Lowry (211) and Spring Creek (253). Fernley took fourth with 136 points. The top five wrestlers advanced to this weekend's NIAA 3A State Championships at Moapa Valley.

Yerington had three zone champions in Jacob Mohahan (140), Sean Watson (189) and Stephen Skroch (215). Kevin Martinez (125) also won a title for Fernley and Kyle Fireston (145) won a crown for Dayton. Other Lyon County wrestlers to qualify for state were:

103 - Cody White, Dayton, fifth; 112 - Tyrell Cummings, Yerington, fifth; 119 - Ryan Lopez, Fernley, second, Blaine Tibbals, Yerington, third; 130 - Derek Happy, Yerington, fifth; 135 - Zephyr Ashbaugh, yerington, fourth; 140 - Brittney Morris, yerington, fifth.

145 - A.J. Estrada, Fernley, second, Matthew Bevington, Yerington, third; 152 - Tucker Taylor, Fernley, third, Devin Galloway, Dayton, fourth; 160 - Jordan Beruman, Fernley, fourth; David Holloway, Yerington, fifth; 171 - Tailor Hunt, Fernley, fifth; 189 - Robert Snider, Yerington, fifth; heavyweight - Daniel Bauer, Yerington, third.
