A celebration of the life of Michael John Walter, 77, a Yerington resident since 1983, will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Highway 208 in Yerington.
Mr. Walter died Feb. 27, 2006 at his home. He was born June 15, 1928 in Oakland, Calif., to Harold and Lillian Senft Walter.
He graduated from Hayward High School in Hayward, Calif., in 1946. He worked for Standard Stations and was circulation manager for the Hayward Journal.
After receiving his contractor's license, Mr. Walter developed and owned Delta Pacific Construction Co. of San Leandro, Calif. He was an active member and past president of the Hayward Optimist Club and member and past president of the Yerington Rotary Club.
He was chief building inspector for Lyon County retiring in 1987.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and four-wheeling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kirby.
Among his survivors are his wife of 57 years, Diane; children Linda Schultz, Rick and wife Janice Walter, Ron Walter, Michael and wife Ariane Walter, John and wife Beverly Walter; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Donations may be made in his name to the Yerington Senior Center, 117 Tilson Way, Yerington, 89447.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
