Carson wrestlers roll to two easy wins

It's becoming that time of year for the Carson High wrestling team to take it to the next level.

Carson appears to be ready to do just that after rolling to a 65-12 win over Wooster and a 71-6 victory over Hug at Hug on Tuesday in two Sierra League dual meets.

"The kids look good," Carson coach Casey Schweitzer said. "We had some good practices over the break.

"We talked about moving to the next level physically and mentally. I feel like we're doing that. We feel our best wrestling is still to come."

Owen Craugh, a two-time state qualifier at 103 pounds, returned to action at 119 on Tuesday and won both of his matches by pin. Against Hug, he won by pin in 24 seconds. "It was a good look for Owen Craugh," Schweitzer said.

Craugh lost his appeal to wrestle at 103, but still could be in the mix for Carson, possibly at 119. At 112-pounds, Todd Banko won by pin against Wooster and won by forfeit against Hug.

Kyle Banko ran his record to 27-2 at 130 with a pin against Wooster and a 17-2 technical decision win against Hug.

Also against Wooster, Brian Halverson won 9-4 at 125, Robbie Bozin won by major decision 19-5 at 135, Travis Lamborn won by pin at 160 and Jonas Schenzel won by pin at 189.

Garrett Truesdale won by majority decision 13-3 at 215. Blake Davidson (145), Martin Azzam (152) and Ahron Osheroff (171) all won by forfeit.

In junior varsity matches, Wes Reddick and Adam Carmazzi both won by pin at 125 and Steven Riemer won by pin at 171. Carson has three quality wrestlers at 125 in Halverson, Carmazzi and Reddick.

Reddick is 9-0 in junior varsity and varsity matches this year while Carmazzi, a state qualifier last year, is 8-1.

Against Hug, Halverson won by pin, Aaron Jolcover won by pin at 140, Davidson won 6-4, Azzam won 13-9, Lamborn won by pin, Osheroff won by pin in 32 seconds and Schenzel and Truesdale also won by pin.

Carson also finally filled its spot at 103 with freshman Lionel Austin, who won both of his matches by forfeit.

The Senators (13-2, 4-1) will host South Tahoe in a league dual meet at 5:30 p.m. today. Carson will then travel to the Clayton Valley Invitation on Saturday in Concord, Calif., while the JVs will compete in the Sparks Varsity Invitational.
