AAA launches drivers ed program for teens


AAA Nevada is launching Driver-ZED, a new computer program designed to teach teens lifesaving driving skills.


Driver-ZED is a computer DVD-ROM that allows teens to gain experience at recognizing dangerous driving situations in a safe virtual environment. The software offers teens different live-action scenarios in a wide variety of driving venues - highways, towns, rural areas, and construction zones.


AAA is also donating copies to all high schools in Nevada.


Driver-ZED can be ordered at www.csaa.com. The software is free for members of AAA of Northern California, Nevada and Utah. The cost for non-members is $7.




Blood Services hosts football blood drive


United Blood Services is holding a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 4. There will be free food, beverages, and prizes.


Show support for your favorite team and wear your team's colors, while showing your support for your community and giving blood or platelets.


The United Blood Services is at 256 E. Winnie Lane, Carson City, and 1125 Terminal Way, Reno. Both offices are participating in this blood drive.

Federal Employees group to meet Tuesday


Chapter 1329 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grandma Hattie's, 2811 S. Carson St.


The optional luncheon is at 11:30 with the business meeting at noon. Guest speaker is Carson City Manager Linda Ritter, who will speak on "The State of the City in 2006."


All active and retired federal employees are invited to attend.

Genealogical Society meets on Thursday


At Thursday's meeting of the Nevada State Genealogical Society members and guests will be asked to "Show and Tell" their fruitful research projects and also bring their road-block problems for discussion and possible advice.


The 7 p.m. meeting is at the Family History Center, 4751 Neil Rd., in Reno. (Entrance around the corner on Filbert Way).

Bartley Ranch presents cowboy poetry and songs


Bartley Ranch Regional Park presents "Under a Starry Nevada Sky," an evening of cowboy poetry and traditional western songs, at 7 p.m. on Jan. 21 in the park's Western Heritage Interpretive Center, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road, in Reno. The event is free.
