Bargain hunters, fun-seekers and wild horses will be the beneficiaries of the Great U.S. 50 Yard Sale in Mound House this weekend.

This event, now in its seventh year, is billed as "the nation's yard sale." It began in Indiana in 2000, with the goal of one day becoming a coast-to-coast event, held the weekend before the Memorial Day weekend.

Dayton, Fernley and Silver Springs will also host events, but the bulk of the action will be in Mound House, where activities will stretch from the Bread of Life Christian Fellowship, 10042 Highway 50, to the Old Time Café near the Highway 50 intersection with State Route 341.

Bread of Life will host a carnival, with a bounce house and games, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The event will also feature a family health and safety fair, including a blood drive.

The Old Time Café will host a classic car Show 'N' Shine on Saturday, and Second Hand Rose will be the site of the giant yard sale.

But the biggest beneficiaries could be Nevada's wild horses.

The Lyon County Horsemen's Association is hosting a "Nevada Living Legends" pleasure ride with all proceeds to benefit the Least Resistance Training Concepts' Lucky Horse Rescue projects.

The ride will begin with registration at 10 a.m. at Dorff Road and Highway 50 in Mound House, on the south side of the highway at the eastern end of Mound House. The ride will begin at 11 a.m. and will cost $5 per rider. Each rider will receive one free raffle ticket and can purchase more.

The ride will cover a four-mile loop heading down toward the Carson River and looping back to Highway 50. Riders should bring a lunch and water for their horses. All clubs and riders are welcome to attend.

Horse enthusiasts will also have a chance to adopt a baby horse from the Lucky Horse Rescue Project.

Bullwinkle's Bar will host the mustang adoption as well as a spaghetti dinner fundraiser with live music later Saturday evening. Mustangs up for adoption can be seen and adopted from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., when dinner will begin. Adopters must meet minimum qualifications.

Spaghetti dinner tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under. Following the dinner is live entertainment by Tee Lee and the Old Fogies.
