The Fourth of July Spectacular in Virginia City was a great event that I hope you didn't miss.

One of my readers, Marla, asked if I actually went. I really do attend these events when I write about them. I spotted Robey and Barbara Willis, who had come up with their grandson, Jake, to enjoy the day; Robb Potter and his family; as well as many other locals.

The next event up at Virginia City is also very fun. The Comstock Bluegrass Festival features the Pickin' and Grinnin' band, a local favorite.

I missed the Karson Kruzers' big event at Fuji Park, but I don't want you to miss the next event coming with hot cars, dancing and show and shine. Yep, the annual Silver Dollar Car Classic and poker run.

You can walk through amazing cars at Mills Park, and select which one you think is the best. This is a very fun day for car enthusiasts, and it gets you all pumped up for the following week's Hot August Nights in Reno.

If you want to participate in the show, call the number below.

The next event is near and dear to my heart - helping children get the supplies needed to start school.

I know it is only July, and it seems like the children just got out of school, but they start back up in late August.

The Carson Homeless Coalition, in cooperation with Stand Down, is asking the community to help children who cannot afford supplies to pitch in for the second annual Back to School Supply Drive.

It's easy when you're there purchasing school supplies for your children or grandchildren to buy a little something extra for a child in need. The average cost to get a child started back to school can run a parent about $40-$60.

The coalition will collect the items and give them to the school counselors to distribute to those children who really need it.

Kathy Bartosz came up with the idea.

"The counselors can handle the distribution discreetly, and it will have the added benefit of assisting the counselor make a positive connection with the child so perhaps the little ones will feel comfortable coming to them if they need to," she said.
