Nevada Yankees fall to the Reno Astros

RENO - The Nevada Yankees started fast with three second-inning runs, but the offense shot blanks over the final five innings en route to a 10-4 loss to the Reno Astros Wednesday night at Moana Park.

The Yankees, 2-5, return to action tonight at 7:30 against Marin County. The teams meet again at noon on Saturday at Governors Field.

The game was tied at 3 after two innings, but the Astros scored two in the third, one in the fourth and three in the sixth to grab a comfortable 9-4 lead.

Losing pitcher Chad Brgantz singled home two runs in the second and Eli Bentley went 1-for-4 with a run-scoring single.

Ex-Carson High and Nevada star Joe Mercer went 2-for-4, including a solo homer in the eighth for the Astros.

Adult only tennis clinic to be offered

The Carson Tennis Club will offer a free adult-only tennis clinic to be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 at the Centennial Park Tennis Complex.

Diane Baker-Roberts and Carson Tennis Club volunteers will conduct the clinic. For more information, call Roberts, 882-7041.
