The Carson Valley Quilt Guild will be hosting a quilt show today and Sunday at the Fuji Park Exhibition Hall in Carson City, across from Costco. This year's theme is "Home Means Nevada."

More than 100 quilts, in addition to the Nevada Challenge, will be on display, as well as the Hoffman Challenge dolls, a national touring exhibition. Vendors will be selling quilting merchandise and a boutique full of items made by guild members also will be available for sale. There will be food available as well.

Show hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 per person. On Sunday, Father's Day, fathers will be admitted free.

For information, go to the Web site, www.cvqg.com or call President Sylvia Kain, 267-3232, or quilt show Chairwoman Sue Muller, 841-4595.

The Nevada Challenge

This year's challenge included Nevada's colors, silver and blue, and the assigned theme was "What Nevada Means to Me." Twenty-two quilters created original wall hangings under these restrictions, and guild members voted on their favorites.

The favorites were: First place, Cecile Brown for "Nevada Ð The Silver State"; second place, Charliene Turner for "What Nevada Means to Me" and third place, Pamela Rodeman for "Home Means Nevada to Me." These quilts, plus the 19 others, hung in the Western Nevada Community College art gallery in April, and will all be on display at the show.

Opportunity Quilt

At the quilt show, the guild will be selling chances on their 2006 Opportunity Quilt, made by guild members.

"Patches and Flowers" is a bed-sized quilt that was pieced, appliquéd and hand quilted by several guild members. It is a lively quilt in a color palette that would go in most any room.

Proceeds will go to the quilt guild, a nonprofit organization that donates to local communities through scholarships and quilt donations.

The Carson Valley Quilt Guild was founded 1986 and now has more than 200 members.

Members meet monthly, have quilt shows, guild challenges, classes, community workshops and a yearly retreat to Lake Tahoe.
