Man cited with drunken driving in weekend crash into home

The driver of a vehicle that plowed into a home this weekend, injuring himself and three others, was cited for drunken driving.

Jason Krueger, 33, was also cited for failure to exercise due care and failure to maintain a single lane in the Saturday accident that injured his 6-year-old son Dennis and two people inside the home.

According to the police report, Krueger, a former deputy of the Carson City Sheriff's Department, was southbound on Saliman Road about 11:20 a.m. when he appeared to lose control, veered across the incoming lane and rammed into the master bedroom of a duplex at 894 Roundhouse Lane.

Tenant Isodoro Rojas was able to escape, but his wife, Maria, and son Edgar were trapped inside the master bathroom.

A passerby pulled Krueger and his son from the wreckage, and deputies Sal Acosta and Dan Gonzalez rescued the mother and son after breaking through a bedroom door and bathroom window.

Acosta climbed over the debris to turn off the vehicle's ignition and then assisted Maria and Edgar out the window with the help of Gonzalez. Gonzalez inhaled battery acid and was treated and released from the hospital.

Mother and son were treated and released from Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Krueger and his son were also treated and released.

Acosta stated in his report that while he was talking with Krueger at the hospital, Krueger mentioned he suffered from narcolepsy and he had taken medication the previous evening. He also allegedly admitted to drinking the night before but denied drinking Saturday.

Narcolepsy is a medical disorder characterized by sudden attacks of deep sleep.

Acosta stated he could smell alcohol coming from Krueger's breath and Krueger allegedly failed a portion of a field sobriety test. Blood was drawn to determine Krueger's condition.

Acosta said Krueger's son described his father slumping over the steering wheel before the crash.

Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Melvin said Krueger was only cited for the wreck and not arrested because he was in the hospital at the time.

He said more charges could be possible once the case is reviewed by the district attorney.
