Boosters to hold benefit car wash


Carson High School Football Boosters will hold a benefit car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Best Buy, 955 Topsy Lane.


Suggested donation is $5 for a regular wash and $10 for more detailed wash.

Shade Tree Council to meet today


The Carson City Shade Tree Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the conference room of the University of Nevada, Reno's Cooperative Extension Office, 2621 Northgate Lane.


Items to be discussed include: Proposed landscaping development standards, the tree honor roll program and possible change of meeting day.


Library board of trustees meet today


The Carson City Library Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the Sierra Room at the Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Topics include: A performance evaluation of the director and various administrative and fundraising reports.

Microchip/vaccinate pets at shelter clinic


Douglas Animal Welfare Group will sponsor a Pet Microchip/Vaccination Clinic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas County Animal Shelter. Microchips cost $30 per animal, which includes the microchip and registration fee. DAWG will mail the microchip application and fee directly to AVID's nationwide database. Vaccinations for dogs, cats and ferrets will be provided. Available vaccines and costs are:

Young at Heart sponsors hikes


The Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club's next monthly hike will be 8 a.m. Saturday at Markleeville Falls. The bus will depart from the Douglas County Senior Center at 8 a.m. and participants should wear comfortable shoes. Cost is $1. To register, call 783-6455.

'High Flying Humor' benefits balloon race


The Great Reno Balloon Race and Catch A Rising Star Comedy Club are holding the second annual "High Flying Humor", a comedy show and silent auction at 7:15 p.m. today inside the Silver Legacy Resort Casino.


A portion of the ticket sales, as well as proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Great Reno Balloon Race.

'Tumbleweed Tex' to entertain kids Friday


Children can watch a night of entertainment by Tumbleweed Tex at the Galena Creek Regional Park's Campfire Series kickoff at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the park, 18350 Mount Rose Highway.

Junior Ranchers learn about 'good bugs'


Children aged 3 to 7 years of age can explore a five-acre field of sunflowers and timothy grass to learn about the world of insects and beneficial bugs during a free Junior Rancher program at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bartley Ranch Regional Park's Western Heritage Interpretive Center, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road in Reno.
