Carson City


Summer band camp early registration ends Friday


Early registration for the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department's Summer Band Camp ends Friday. The camp is for students entering sixth through eighth grade in the fall who have played an instrument at least one year.


The camp will be 8:30 a.m. to noon July 31-Aug. 4 at Seeliger Elementary School on South Saliman Road. Students can participate in concert band, swing band, small ensembles, lessons and a music-theory class. A concert will be presented at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 4.


Tuition is $75 if the student registers before Friday; after that, the tuition is $85. Registration for the camp closes July 25.

Lecture topic is 'talking machine'


The Carson City Historical Society will host "Reflections of Carson City" with Rich McGregor at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St.


The lecture will discuss the development and evolutionary history of Thomas Edison's favorite invention, the phonograph.




HIV tests, hepatitis vaccinations offered Tuesday


In recognition of National HIV Testing Day, the Nevada State Health Division's HIV Prevention Program and Hepatitis Prevention Program, in partnership with the Northern Nevada HIV Outpatient Program Education and Services will provide HIV tests and hepatitis vaccinations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Nevada State Health Division, 505 E. King St. Northern Nevada HOPES' mobile testing van will be on site.

'Taste of Gardnerville' tickets on sale now


The Douglas County historical Society will host the annual fundraising event, "Taste of Gardnerville," at 5 p.m. Aug. 5.


Tickets are $20 at the Carson Valley Museum and at Nelson's Restaurant in Gardnerville.


The evening will be full of varying taste treats and music.




Summer concerts continue in Minden


The public is invited to bring a picnic dinner and enjoy an evening of music from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at Minden Park.


Mumbo Gumbo will be playing. All food and beverage proceeds go to community youth programs.

Lyon County


Antiques needed for Buckland Station restoration


Buckland Station's interior restoration has begun and will be open to the public when completed. Four rooms will be set up as "period rooms" using antique furnishings.


Fort Churchill is asking the public's help in acquiring antique furniture dating from 1880-1900 to use in the display rooms.


Antique sofas, chairs, tables, lamps, dressers or other furnishings are being accepted as donations and loans.


Period rooms will represent a parlor, guest sitting room, dining room and bedroom.

'Rainbow Walk' at Rancho San Rafael


Children ages 3 to 6 can enjoy a ranger-led search for all of the colors in the rainbow at Rancho San Rafael Regional Par, and create a rainbow craft during a free Touching Nature program at 10 a.m. Wednesday.


Participants should meet in front of the Ranger's Office.
