The Carson Cardinals lost 10-5 to the Les Schwab Rockets of West Albany, Ore., in its opening game of the Doc Stewart's Tournament on Thursday in Roseburg, Ore.
Brooks Greenlee continued his hot hitting as he went 3-for-3 with a double, making him 8-for-8 in his last two games. Greenlee was 5-for-5 on Saturday against the Nevada Yankees. David Leid also had two hits and three RBI and Bryt Lewis had two hits for Carson.
Carson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Joe Skates, Brooks Greenlee and Lewis all singled and Leid hit a two-run single.
But Kyle Mandoki, who had been throwing well, struggled as he was only able to go two innings.
Stephen Sawyers came in to pitch four solid innings. He allowed two runs in the third, but didn't allow a runner past second the rest of the way.
Carson scored its other three runs in the seventh. Tyler Smith singled and scored on Greenlee's double. Lewis and Leid followed with RBI singles.
The Cardinals will continue play in the tournament at 1 p.m. today against Napa, Calif., and at 4 again against the Rockets.
