A funeral service for Juan G. Ybarrondo Sr., 80, a 33-year Carson City resident, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Ybarrondo died June 24, 2006, in Carson City. He was born May 25, 1926, in Plencia, Spain, to Raymundo and Margarita Ybarrondo.

He married Mary Catherine Ybarrondo on June 1, 1955, in Winnemucca.

He was an underground raise miner for 30 years.

Before coming to the United States, he was a merchant marine for Spain, and was a commercial fisherman during World War II.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; son, Juan G. Ybarrondo Jr. of Carson City; daughter, Margo M. Smith of Carson City; sisters Margari and Marichu, both of Plencia; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Burial will take place at Walton's Carson Gardens Cemetery.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
