Man waives hearing in death of friend

A Carson City man waived his preliminary hearing Friday in the Carson River Road shooting death of his friend.

Donald Davis, 21, is charged with felony involuntary manslaughter, being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and gross misdemeanor aiming a firearm at another.

He was to appear before Judge John Tatro on Friday, but waived the hearing, possibly in an anticipation of a plea.

According to witness statements, on June 15, Davis and victim Zack Warren, 18, had joined two other friends at a home at 4900 Carson River Road to "party." Just before midnight, the two began to "playfully" call each other names.

During the exchange, Davis allegedly pulled from his waistband a gun which he played with for a short time by loading and unloading the clip, pulling back the slide and dry firing.

After more "banter" between the two, Davis allegedly pointed the gun at Warren and pulled the trigger, said Lt. Bob White.

A single bullet entered Warren's head above his left eye. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

While one of the witnesses called 911, Davis allegedly ran out the back door.

He was arrested eight hours later at a North Carson Street lumber yard.

Davis is being held on $1 million bail.
