Mile High Jazz Band presents 'Jazz and Poetry'


The Mile High Jazz Band and vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by local poets from 8-10 p.m. March 14 at Comma Coffee in downtown Carson City. Admission is $5 general, $4 for Mile High Jazz Band Association members, and free for age 18 and under.

Ski day to benefit battered women


Tahoe Women's Services, an organization dedicated to helping abused women, will be hosting the Tahoe Women's Services Ski Day Sunday at Northstar-at-Tahoe. The $20 lift ticket must be purchased in advance by Saturday.


Tickets are available at www.tahoewomenservices.org, or at Tahoe Dave's Skis & Boards, Porters on the North Shore in Truckee or at the Tahoe Women's Services office in Incline Village. Tickets are not available for sale at Northstar.

UNR offers classes on 'tourism's effect on culture'


In "Special Topics: World of Travel and Tourism V: Cultural Tourism and Travel in Africa and the Middle East," University of Nevada, Reno students will discuss the basics of cultural tourism, focusing on respect for the ways of the world's cultures.


The class is April 1-2, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Continuing Education Building, 1041 N. Virginia St., Reno.


The course fee is $102, one undergraduate credit; or $140, one graduate credit. Early registration is required.

Robert A. Kelly tree services holds tree pruning workshop


Robert A. Kelly Tree Services presents a tree-pruning workshop from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.


Participants will learn basic pruning techniques to increase tree health and improve the quality of landscape. A tax-deductible donation of up to $20 will be accepted to help offset workshop costs. Call 785-4153.




Junior League of Reno to hold Healthy Kids Fair


The Junior League of Reno and several other organizations are holding the seventh annual Healthy Kid's Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Park Lane Mall in Reno. The free event includes health, safety and wellness information.


There will be live entertainment. All children will receive a free "goodie" bag and may enter a raffle drawing.

CREW of Northern Nevada holds monthly luncheon


Patty Wade-Snyder of Wade Development Co., Inc., and Lance Gilman will address industrial growth to the east of Reno at CREW's monthly luncheon, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. March 15 at the Atlantis Hotel and Casino, on the second level, next to the Monte Vigna restaurant.
