Douglas County Parks & Recreation, the Cooperative Extension's 4-H program, and Great Basin Outdoor School will be offering a snowshoeing excursion for teens from 3-6:30 p.m. Monday.


Cost is $10, which includes transportation, snacks, snowshoeing equipment, supervision and instructions. Preregistration is due by today. Teens should bring a water bottle, a small backpack, sunglasses, snow boots, gloves, a hat, snow pants and a jacket. For information or to register, call 782-9968.

Indian taco dinner today


The public is invited to an Indian taco dinner hosted by the Carson City Emblem Club today at the Elks Lodge, 515 N. Nevada St.


There will be cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Carson City Symphony to perform Sunday


The Carson City Symphony will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Carson City Community Center. There will be a pre-concert show by the flute ensemble at 3 p.m., and a "meet the soloist" preview at 3:15 p.m. in the Sierra Room.


Guest soloist Ana Vidovic will perform on the guitar with "Concierto de Aranjuez," by Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo. Cost is $12 general admission and $10 for seniors, students and Symphony Association members. For information, call 883-4154.

Michael's to hold knitting tea party for Warm Up America


As part of the Warm Up America program, Michael's will be holding a Knitting Tea Party from 1-5 p.m. Saturday at their store, 911 Topsy Lane.


Participants will make and connect afghan squares to make lap blankets to donate to local charities.


There will be tea and cookies, and participation is free. There will be yarn available or participants can bring their own, but everyone must bring knitting and crochet needles. For information, call 267-1938.

Piper's hosts Chollar Mine fundraiser Saturday


Piper's Opera House in Virginia City will be hosting a fundraiser for the Chollar Mine at 2 and 6 p.m. Saturday at the house.
