Free tows offered on News Year's Eve


AAA offers Tipsy Tow to those in need of a ride home on New Year's Eve. AAA will offer the service to drinking drivers 6 p.m.-6 a.m. beginning New Year's Eve. Drivers, potential passengers, party hosts, bartenders and restaurant managers can call 1-800-222-4357 for a free tow home of up to five miles. Tell the AAA operator, "I need a Tipsy Tow."


The service will provide a one-way ride for the driver and vehicle to the driver's home. If there are additional passengers who need a ride, they will be taken to the driver's home as long as there is sufficient room for them to be transported safely in the tow truck. AAA membership is not required for Tipsy Tow.




'Vagina Monologues' auditions coming up Saturday


Wild Horse Productions will present "The Vagina Monologues." Auditions for this benefit performance are 1 p.m. Saturday at Marlette Hall at Western Nevada College.


No theater experience or preparation for the audition is needed and those auditioning with be given selections from the play to read. This production will be directed by Micha Marie Stevens and will be presented at Marlette Hall at WNC March 14-15.


Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" is based on her interviews with more than 200 women about love, sex and life. The results are humorous, sad and empowering combinations of monologues given by diverse women. Call 887-0438 or see www.wildhorsetheater.com.




'Cool Jazz in January' at Comma Coffee Jan. 8


Swing into the new year with the Mile High Jazz Band at "Cool Jazz in January," a big-band event with guest vocalist Jakki Ford, 8-10 p.m. Jan. 8, at Comma Coffee. General admission is $5 at the door; $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Association; and free for age 18 and under. Come early for swing dance instruction, 6 to 7:30 p.m., $5 additional.


The 17-member Mile High Jazz Band performs music in the spirit of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman and more contemporary jazz styles from their repertoire of more than 100 charts.

Tickets on sale for Soroptimist fundraiser scheduled for March 8


Soroptimist International of Carson Valley will present its annual Savor the Flavor fundraiser 6-9 p.m. March 8 at Genoa Lakes Golf Resort. The evening will feature wines and microbrews donated by some of the area's finest wineries and distributors, a food tasting from local restaurants, and a silent auction. Raffle tickets will be sold.


Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Psychic fair scheduled
