Carson City


Free tows offered on New Year's Eve


AAA offers Tipsy Tow to those in need of a ride home on New Year's Eve. AAA will offer the service to drinking drivers from 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve to until 6 a.m. New Year's Day.


Drivers, potential passengers, party hosts, bartenders and restaurant managers can call 1-800-222-4357 for a free tow home of up to five miles. Tell the AAA operator, "I need a Tipsy Tow."


The service will provide a one-way ride for the driver and vehicle to the driver's home. If there are additional passengers who need a ride, they will be taken to the driver's home as long as there is sufficient room for them to be transported safely in the tow truck. AAA membership is not required for Tipsy Tow.




Hypnotist at Galaxy, then joins Kat Simmons for show


Join hypnotist and comic Dan Kimm for his family fun solo show at the Galaxy Theatre at 7 p.m. on Thursday nights starting Jan. 3. Tickets are $10 at the Galaxy Theatre Box Office. Showtime is Call 885-9500.


Then catch him along with local Kat Simmons of the Carson Valley Inn for a night of hypnosis and laughter 7 p.m. Jan. 12, at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. Tickets are $20 advance, $25 day of show, at www.breweryarts.org or at 883-1976. This is an age 21-and-older show.


Dunbar to speak at CTRHA meeting


The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary will hold its January meeting and luncheon on Jan. 8 at the Casino Fandango, 3800 South Carson St. Meet and greet will begin at 11 a.m. with lunch, business meeting and program to follow. This month's speaker will be Tad Dunbar, television news anchor, recently retired from KOLO. Reservations must be made by Jan. 3 by calling 882-6486 or 721-0022 or 445-5142.

Firefighting job fair in Elko


The Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs will host a Job Fair at the BLM Elko District Office, 3900 East Idaho Street, in Elko from 6-8 p.m. on Jan. 3.


Applications for summer seasonal firefighting and dispatching positions for the 2008 fire season must be submitted online. BLM, BIA and Forest Service fire staff will be on hand to help people apply. Computers also will be available. Applications must be submitted no later than Jan. 17 to receive first consideration for Nevada BLM locations. TOCCATA plans concert schedule


The Orchestra and Community Choral Artists of the Tahoe Area has formalized its organization with the formation of a Board of Directors.


TOCCATA will be offering a charter membership to all for the calendar year 2008.


Charter members will receive recognition in TOCCATA concert programs for the entire life of TOCCATA, one season ticket to all concerts performed during the 2008 season with reserved seating, and an invitation to attend post-concert receptions.


The 2008 concert schedule features performances of Handel's "Messiah" Jan. 4-6; the Basically Barocco Series featuring selections from Bach's B minor Mass, Jan. 25-27; and the Bach "St. Matthew Passion," March 19-22.

The group was founded in 2005 by James and Nancy Rawie as a non-profit musical arts organization.
