Carson High graduate Paul Carter, a junior for William Penn's wrestling team in Iowa has excelled both on the mat and in the classroom as he was named a Daktronics-NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete, announced by the national office at the NAIA National Tournament recently.
Carter, who owns a 3.743 grade point average in physical education and health, was a national tournament qualifier and finished 1-2 at the championships. The junior, who also qualified but did not compete in 2005, finished the 2005-2006 campaign at 19-19. He was one of just 14 individuals in the NAIA to receive the honor.
To be eligible for the award, athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above and have qualified for the national tournament.
