Carson City

Carson City Library begins storytimes

The Carson City Library Youth Department begins its spring session of storytimes Tuesday. Latecomers will not be admitted, so come early. Free admission tickets are required for some programs and will be available at the youth desk prior to each program.

Preschool storytime is at 10:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A 30-minute storytime for children ages 3-5 who are independent enough to listen to stories while their parent is out of the room.

Toddler Lapsit, for ages 2 to 3, is held twice each Thursday at 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. This storytime incorporates adult-child interaction and each child must be accompanied by one adult. Free admission tickets are required.

Family storytime is held twice each Friday at 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. This program is appropriate for families with more than one child. Preschoolers and young elementary students are welcome. Free admission tickets are required.

Middle school needs used books

Carson Valley Middle School needs the used books of the community to benefit its fifth annual Used Book Sale, which benefits the school library.

Gently used books, music, movies, puzzles, and games will be accepted.

Books for any age range is accepted.

Donations may be dropped off at the CVMS front office. Call 782-2265 ext. 32.

Audubon holds talk about bird areas

The Lahontan Audubon Society will host a discussion with Don McIvor, the Carson City author of "Important Bird Areas of Nevada" at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the South Valleys Library at 15650A Wedge Parkway, off of Mount Rose Highway.

The discussion will be called "Exploring Nevada's Important Bird Areas."

Public Utilities Commission to hold consumer session

The Public Utilities Commission has scheduled a consumer session at 6 p.m. today at the Reno/Sparks Convention Center meeting rooms A19-20 in Reno to hear comments from the general public regarding Sierra Pacific Power Co.'s application to adjust rates and recover deferred energy expenses.

Representatives from Sierra Pacific will be in attendance to answer questions regarding their application.

Cooperative Extension continues gardening series

The UNR Cooperative Extension's "Gardening in Nevada" series of free lectures will be continued from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bartley ranch in Reno.

The seminar is entitled "Growing Vegetables for Fun and Enjoyment." Call 784-4848.
