RVs, tents cannot be left unattended

There have been several RVs and tents left unattended at the Lahontan State Recreation Area, which is a violation of Nevada Administrative Code. Rising waters can also damage campers and tents. Anyone who has left property at the Lahontan Reservoir is urged to remove their camps to prevent loss. For information, call (775) 577-2235.




RTC routes to change for holiday


The public transit services provided by the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) will be modified today for the Memorial Day observance. Riders of RTC RIDE (formerly Citifare) and RTC INTERCITY (Formerly PRIDE) should note the schedule changes. RTC RIDE will operate in the Reno/Sparks area on a Sunday schedule.


RTC INTERCITY, the service that travels between Carson City and Reno, will not be operating on Memorial Day.

Empire Cemetery access limited


Visitors to east Carson City's Empire Cemetery will only have one means of access to the cemetery, coming in from North Deer Run Road, west on Sheep Drive to Capitol City Concrete.


Visitors need to go through this property to reach the main entrance of Empire Cemetery.

Volunteers to honor fallen military


The Carson High NJROTC will post the National Colors at half mast at 8 a.m. this morning at the Lone Mountain Cemetery and then post the colors of the services.


At noon, the Marines will raise the colors to full-mast, and there will be a ceremony.


Volunteers will gather the flags at 4 p.m. this afternoon.


Railroad museum offers free rides for servicemen, women


The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City will be offering free train rides to servicemen and women, active duty, retired and veterans this weekend to thank them for their service.


The museum will be open regular hours for Memorial Day's observance today.

United Blood Services holds Memorial Day drive

Sierra Philharmonic League preparing for 'Pops in the Park'


The Sierra Philharmonic League's annual "Pops in the Park" Music Celebration and auction is July 4 at the Mormon Station State Park in Genoa.
