Scavenger hunt to benefit gifted kids


Carson City's Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program and TWDive Company are presenting a treasure hunt called "Puzzle Me Carson City" to benefit the GATE programs. The hunt begins at 8 a.m. Thursday and ends when all puzzles are solved, days or weeks later. The hunt requires footwork in and around Carson City. Learn to teach English-as a-second language


There will be a free workshop in tutoring English as a second language from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Carson City Public Library's auditorium, 900 Roop St. There will be refreshments. Free training materials will be provided. reserve a seat. Call 888-2021.


Screenings help prevent strokes


Residents living in and around Carson City can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke.


Life Line screening will be at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1837 Mountain St., Friday starting at 10 a.m. Each screening requires 10 minutes or less to complete.


A complete vascular screening package, including the stroke/carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm and ankle brachial index screenings is $109 and the osteoporosis screening added in only costs $129.

Volunteers needed for golf tournament


The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is holding its 13th annual golf tournament Aug. 5 and needs players, sponsors, and volunteers to help make it happen. Hole watchers, runners, committee members, coordinators, reservationists, check-in persons and bag-stuffers are all needed.

Elder abuse presentation rescheduled


There will be a presentation on elder abuse by Susan Hansen, an elder abuse specialist at 11:45 a.m. today at the Storey County Senior Center, 100 Six Mile Canyon Road. Junior rancher program presents 'Baggie Gardens'


Children aged 3 to 7 can learn to how to plant an entire garden in a plastic bag at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bartley Ranch Regional Park at 6000 Bartley Ranch Road in Reno. This program is free.
