There will be a 12-mile hike to El Dorado Canyon near Dayton on Saturday for the Carson City Senior Citizen's Center, and Sunday for the Sierra Club.


Participants in the hike will be faced with an elevation gain of under 1,000 feet during the route.


There will also be a hike near a portion of the historic Virginia City flume system on McClellan Peak near Virginia City on Nov. 25 for the senior center, and Nov. 26 for the Sierra Club.

Silver Saddle Ranch meeting on Saturday


The Friends of the Silver Saddle Ranch will be holding its November general meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Red House on the Silver Saddle Ranch, off Carson River Road. Guest speaker is Cameron Johnson, of the Nevada Wilderness Project. Call 884-1570.




Winter Extravaganza Stop and Shop Saturday


The 2006 Winter Extravaganza Stop and Shop will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at 4051 Lepire Drive in Carson City. Vendors from Jafra Cosmetics, Home Interiors & Gifts, Tupperware, Cachet Candles, Cookie Lee Jewelry, Canine Creations and Tastefully Simple will be gathered for holiday shopping. Elk's Lodge Veterans Day dinner set Saturday


The Carson City Elk's Lodge, 515 N. Nevada St., will hold a Veterans Day dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday at the lodge. Cost is $6, but veterans with cards get in free. There will be spaghetti and meatballs, Caesar salad, cheesy garlic bread and dessert. Proceeds benefit the Carson City Senior Center's Adopt a Senior Veteran in the Meals on Wheels program to help homebound veterans. Call 882-2177.

Church to celebrate Thanksgiving


The Bread of Life Christian Fellowship invites the community of Mound House to join them from 2-4 p.m. on Nov. 19 to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Washoe County to hold veterans ceremony


Washoe County Senior Services will be hosting a reception to honor Washoe County Veterans of all ages from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday at the Washoe County Senior Center, corner of Ninth and Sutro streets in Reno.


Veterans are invited and encouraged to wear their military medals. Call 328-6141.
