Office hours at the Grubb & Ellis commercial real estate were cut back and some services were transferred to the Reno office, an agent with the Carson City office said Friday.

After operating in Carson City for three years, the office owner has decided to cut costs in Carson City, said Gary Moreira, an agent and broker with Grubb & Ellis/Nevada Commercial Group. Listings in the area, which includes Carson City, Gardnerville and Minden, are still being served.

The one administrative assistant was laid off. The office at West Nye Lane and Carson Street will not keep regular business hours.

"We're still working out of there, but if you go there, there's a 50/50 chance there won't be someone down there," he said. "All the administrative help is in Reno. They eliminated a position we had in reception and marketing."

Although he said the commercial real estate has slowed for them, Moreira said he's still busy. He works full-time with his son, Clint Moreira. Agent Kris Holt has left the office.

"It's a shocker for me," Holt said about the cutbacks at the Carson office. He said he's looking for another agency after working for Grubb & Ellis for about three years.

Carson City and Reno Grubb & Ellis office owner John Pinjuv could not be reached for comment. Moreira said he made the decision in early September.

"Change is always a little awkward at first, but once you settle into it, it's going fine," Moreira said.

Faxes should be sent to the Reno office at 332-2810.
