Great Basin Federal Credit Union's in Reno and Sparks will be holding a Halloween Safety Day all day at their three locations Monday. This event will include free safety kits and treat bags, edible goodies and free children's games from 3 - 6 p.m. Volunteers from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments will be supplying families with free Child ID kits. Costumes are encouraged and admission is free. Call 333-4228.

Toastmasters to hold open house Thursday

Preservation coalition to hold tour of east Carson


An east side tour of Carson City will be given by the Carson City Preservation Coalition at 9 a.m. Friday. Participants should meet at the Capital grounds. Cost is $5 and includes the booklet "Charles W. Friend, East-Side Tour of Carson City." The walk is approximately two and a half hours long. Call 267-2557.




Free child- development screening for Carson City children


Children ages birth to five years old who are not able to talk or perform tasks like other children their age may have special needs. Carson City residents may bring their children for a free child development screening from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Early Childhood Center, 710 W. Fourth St. An interpreter will be available. Douglas County


Zephyr Cove library to hold story time


Douglas County Public Library at Zephyr Cove will be holding an afternoon of spooky Halloween stories for children four and up at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Stories will be read aloud from "Making Friends with Frankenstein: A book of Monstrous Poems and Pictures," and "The Spook Matinee: And Other Scary Poems for Kids." Local church to hold harvest party


The Connection Church in Dayton will host a Harvest Party from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the church, 801 Overland Loop No. 28. The party will offer game booths, candy, a bounce house, cake walk, food and other fun activities for all ages. The party is free and open to the public. Positive and fun costumes are encouraged, but not required.

Holiday Food Drive kicks off Wednesday


The University of Nevada, Reno cheerleaders, local businesses and community leaders, will kick off the Holiday Food Drive for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Red's Little Waldorf Saloon, located at 1661 N. Virginia St. in Reno. This year's goal is to raise 250,000 pounds of food this holiday season. Call 331-3663.
