John David Mitchell, 63, a 13-year Carson City resident, died Oct. 23, 2006, in Carson City.

Mr. Mitchell was born Aug. 30, 1943, in Tonopah to John David Mitchell Sr. and Helen May Ostander-Mitchell Tosta.

Before moving to Carson City, Mr. Mitchell lived in Turlock, Calif.

He attended Orestimba Union High School in Newman, Calif., from 1958-60 and graduated in Hawaii in 1961.

He worked in highway construction as a gradesetter and senior engineer. He belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers.

He was preceded in death by his mother on Oct. 2, 1967, in Modesto, Calif.; father on Nov. 6, 1965, in St. Louis, Ill.; son Timothy D. Mitchell on Oct. 10, 1985; stepfather Joseph E. Tosta on May 20, 1991, in Turlock, Calif., and nephew Stal W. Carcy on June 28, 2004, in Merced, Calif.

Among his survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Mitchell Petroni of Dos Palos, Calif.; sisters Jeanne R. Mitchell-Burns of Mariposa, Calif., Jeanette Tosta-Carey of Merced, Calif., Janice Tosta-Finney of Felton, Calif., and F. Hope Mitchell-Skyberg of Boise; brother Rodney L. Mitchell of Midvale, Utah; and several extended family members.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
