What I do: I do guardianships and custodianships for disabled veterans. Depending on the seriousness it can be a custodianship, where I watch over their funds, pay bills and give allowances. Or it can be a guardianship if the veteran has more serious issues. I would like to expand my business to help disabled, elderly people when they become incompetent to handle their affairs.

Why this field interests me: I had a son who was a disabled veteran, and I was his guardian for awhile. This helps the community and keeps me semi-retired. I get a small stipend from the government for handling the funds, and the veterans get help from someone who is certified.

Why I opened my business in Carson City: I was co-locating with an attorney in Reno when the gas prices went over $3 a gallon. We decided something had to give. Driving to Reno everyday was not cost efficient for the small amount of money I make.

My credentials: I have a degree in engineering and business administration. I'm a retired electronics engineer. I recently passed the test as a certified national guardian from the National Guardian Foundation.

My family: I was born in Minnesota. Most of my family is in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. I have grown children in Nevada and California. I recently married Sharon. I've been in Carson City for 10 years, this is my retirement destination.

My life motto: If you're not having fun, you're doing the wrong thing.
