'The September Project' at library to remember 9/11


The Carson City Library will be participating today in The September Project, a grassroots effort to create a day of reflection on the events of Sept. 11, 2001.


The documentary "9/11" will be shown at 3 p.m. in the auditorium. This program is free and open to the public. The library is at 900 N. Roop St. For information, call 887-2244.




Senior center collects 'white elephants' for raffle


The Carson City Senior Citizens Center is collecting "white elephants" for a "You Pick It" raffle fundraiser for senior programs, to be held Sept. 29.


The center asks that only items in good condition be donated. They should be brought to the administration office at the east entrance to the center, 911 Beverly Drive. To arrange to have donations picked up, call 882-6061.




Mural artist to demonstrate techniques at BAC


The Nevada Artists Association will be hosting a demonstration by artist Lori Nourse at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Brewery Arts Center Gallery, 449 W. King St. She will demonstrate how to use faux-finishing glazes to paint murals. For information, call 885-7072.




'Jazz and Poetry' at Comma Coffee


The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Sheryl Adams will perform with poets such as Krista Benjamin, Suzanne Roberts, Rita Geil and Terri Breeden, for an evening of "Jazz and Poetry" from 8 - 10 p.m. Tuesday at Comma Coffee, at 312 S. Carson St. across from the Legislature building.


Admission is $5, $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Association, and free for those aged 18 and under. Swing-dance lessons are an additional $5 from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

Local leaders to be jailed to help March of Dimes help kids


Local business and community leaders will be voluntarily booked and jailed Tuesday in a fundraiser to benefit the March of Dimes, Northern Nevada Division.


"Prisoners" will spend one hour "behind bars" for crimes such as smiling too much on a Monday morning, reckless window shopping and other charges. They must phone family, friends and co-workers to raise "bail" in the form of contributions to the March of Dimes.


This event is at 10 a.m. at Applebee's Restaurant, 3300 S. Carson St.


The March of Dimes is dedicated to preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Historical society recruiting volunteers to be docents


The Nevada Historical Society is recruiting volunteers to work with the museum's Docent Council. It is holding a docent orientation for those interested at 1 p.m. today at 1650 N. Virginia St. in Reno.
