Morning birding walk today at Spooner Lake

Lahontan Audubon Society is sponsoring an easy morning birding walk around Spooner Lake State Park at 7:30 a.m. today. The group will search the shoreline for spotted sandpiper, osprey, and a variety of waterfowl.

Wilderness survival class at Dayton park

Basic Wilderness Survival Skills at Dayton State Park will be 9 a.m.-noon today. Each year many people are lost, stranded or worse in the wilderness. Demonstrations will include making a solar still, finding your way with a compass and building your own mini-first aid/survival kit.

The park will provide materials and have enough supplies for 25 families. For information or to reserve a space, call 687-5678.

Brandi Carlile sings at Sparks casino

Still in her 20s, singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile has captured the ears of eclectic music fans who often reserve praise for musicians twice her age. Hear Carlile sing "The Story" today in the Celebrity Showroom at John Ascuaga's Nugget.

D.L. Hughley coming to MontBleu tonight

D.L. Hughley, one of the original Kings of Comedy whose fame continues to grow through television, film and stage, will reign over audiences at the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa at 9 p.m. tonight.

Los Angeles native Hughley began performing stand-up comedy in local clubs before receiving his first big break on HBO's "Def Comedy Jam" in 1992.

This appearance made the comedy industry stand up and take notice and Hughley was quickly chosen to be the first host of BET's "Comic View" which debuted later that same year.
