Brewery presents 'Little Shop of Horrors'

The Brewery Arts Center Summer Stock Company presents the musical "The LIttle Shop of Horrors" at its outdoor amphitheater Thursday, Friday and Aug. 9, 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m.

One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has become a household name, thanks to a highly successful film version and a score by the songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken Tickets are $15 general, $3 off for BAC members, seniors and students. Book club to discuss 'Audacity of Hope'

Party planned to wrap up library's youth reading program

Carson City Library's youth department will sponsor the Summer Reading Wrap-up Party at noon Saturday. Youth who participated in "Get a Clue" are invited to attend the celebration.

Raffle drawing prizes will be awarded, along with certificates, food and fun. Friends of the Carson City Library annually sponsor the Summer Reading Program.

WNC theater to hold auditions on Tuesday

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company will hold open auditions for "Guys and Dolls" at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Sarah Winnemucca Hall at Western Nevada College in Carson City.

Auditioners should come prepared to sing a song under one minute long. They may bring a taped accompaniment or provide the accompanist with a musical score. Callbacks will follow on the Thursday evening.

Casting calls for 16 speaking roles, as well as Hot Box dancers, gamblers and Salvation Army missionaries. The show will play in nine performances at the Carson City Community Center, Nov. 3-18.

Everyone accepted in the cast must register to participate in the production. All credit students will receive a scholarship to defray half their tuition. This course applies to the Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis in Musical Theatre. For information call 445-4249

Spanish Classes for Kids starts Thursday

Spanish Classes for Kids at the Children's Museum is underway begins Thursday and will be held on subsequent Thursdays through August. A class for 4- to 6-year-olds will be from 1p.m. to 2:15 p.m. The 6- to 9-year-old class will be from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Class size is limited to 12 students in each class. Comic D.L. Hughley plays at MontBleu

D.L. Hughley, one of the original Kings of Comedy whose fame continues to grow through television, film and stage, will reign over audiences at the MontBleu Theatre at 9 p.m. Saturday.

Native American Art Show in Reno

A Native American Art Show is on for August at Wildflower Village Open Door Gallery in Reno. Visitors can expect to see a wide variety of native-themed art- bracelets and rings, paintings, seed bead work, medicine bags, silversmith work, leather items, baskets, wall hangings, feather work, God's eyes, dream-catchers, earrings, necklaces, pottery and gourds. Not all of the artists are Native Americans, but all work is representative of native traditional art, jewelry and themes.

A reception will be 6-8 p.m. Aug. 18. Wine, soft drinks and hors'd'oeuvres will be served. Wildflower Village is open every day, noon until 6 at 4335 W. Fourth Street. Call 787-3769.

Two days of reggae includes Ziggy Marley

Ziggy Marley, eldest son of reggae's royal family, The Marleys, plays at the Truckee Regional Park Friday. Also appearing is Dub Conscious. Tickets are $25 advance, gates open at 5 p.m., the all -ages show starts at 6 - 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Midnite, roots reggae band from St. Croix, and the Abyssians appear. Tickets are $25 in advance. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., the all-ages show starts is 5-10 p.m.
