A Carson City woman who pleaded guilty to stealing money from a youth sports account received probation on a charge of theft this week.

Kristine Myers, 36, was given a suspended sentence of one year in jail in lieu of up to three years probation by District Judge Bill Maddox on Tuesday.

Myers, the former treasurer for Carson City Little League, entered a guilty plea in July to gross misdemeanor attempted theft in exchange for two theft charges being dropped.

According to Carson City Sheriff's Department records, an audit by a new treasurer of the group's bank account in 2006 revealed discrepancies and the information was given to police.

Detective Bob Motamenpour reviewed the account and, according to the Sheriff's Department report, traced a $4,000 transfer from the account to one owned by former treasurer Myers.

Myers allegedly said she had transferred the money into her account to prevent the account's co-signer from taking the funds.

According to the report, Motamenpour also discovered Myers allegedly deposited two checks totaling $1,750 from her employer, a Carson City dentist, into the league's account without his knowledge.
