Woman pleads in theft from Little League

A Carson City woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to transferring money from a Little League bank account, of which she was treasurer, into her own.

Kristine Myers, 36, entered a guilty plea to gross misdemeanor attempted theft in exchange for two charges of theft being dropped.

According to Carson City Sheriff's Department records, a new treasurer for Carson City Little League noticed discrepancies in the group's account and reported it to police.

Detective Bob Motamenpour reviewed the account and, according to the report, traced a $4,000 transfer from the account to one owned by former treasurer Myers.

Myers, when confronted by league board members, allegedly said she had transferred the money into her account to prevent the account's co-signer from taking the funds.

Motamenpour, however, subpoenaed Myers account and noticed not only did Myers transfer the money into her account on Dec. 20, 2005, but spent every penny shopping.

"It became evident that Kristine was conducting her Christmas shopping," the report states.

According to the report, Motamenpour also discovered Myers allegedly had two donation checks totaling $1,750 from her employer, a Carson City dentist, deposited into the league's account without his knowledge.

Motamenpour said in January that Myers said she had "collected enough money to put the stolen money back in the league's account."

"It's clearly determined that Kristine spent the money for her own benefit and never set it aside as she claimed," Motamenpour wrote. "Through such expenditures, Kristine not only paid personal bills for shopping just before Christmas, she paid her own home loan payment as well as her automatic insurance payment."

Myers faces up to one year in jail when sentenced Aug. 28.
