The Carson City Young Business Professionals are acting as "guest" bartenders and servers at Doppelgangers Tuesday night. The club has adopted three families for Christmas. All the tips and donations received will go toward helping the families with food, clothing and a gift for the children.

So come join the Christmas cheer and give to a great cause to help needy families have a warm and happy holiday. If you need more information, call 450-9595 or 884-2990.

Each year, the Carson City Elks Club holds a "turkey roundup" for Friends in Service Helping. If you want to buy an extra frozen turkey to help a family have a beautiful holiday dinner from now until Dec. 24, you can drop birds off at the lodge.

Turkeys of any size would be greatly appreciated, and all will go directly to the shelter to be distributed to families in need. Monetary donations also are being accepted and can be mailed to the club at the address below.

I am a firm believer that charity begins at home, and the next group is an excellent example of that.

If you want to help local children, The Dialogue Group to End Childhood Hunger and Homelessness in Carson City is sponsoring a free chili dinner on Friday. Afterward, they will walk over to the Capitol for a homeless-awareness vigil. Carson City citizens are willing to freeze to make a point that no child should go hungry or be cold.

Two organizations are selling See's Candy in several locations in Carson City. If you are heading out to Costco for some last-minute shopping, stop by and pick up some yummy chocolate from the Carson City Lions Club, through Thursday. Also, the Lion's Club will be set up at Save-Mart grocery stores and Raley's. All funds raised help children and adults with eye exams and glasses.

The Carson City Senior Citizens Center, at 911 Beverly Drive, is also selling See's candy. All proceeds go to supplement the costs in providing the center's 48 programs for seniors.
