Thursday road conditions and weather report

The Nevada Department of Transportation at 6:33 a.m. reports the following road controls in the area:

Interstate 80 " Chains mandatory for 61.8 miles between Alta, Calif. Exit 146 and 0.6 miles west of Garson Road Exit 4.

US Highway 50 " Chains or snow tires required for 26.8 miles between Junction SR 89 and 0.4 miles west of Junction US 395 at south Carson City.

Chains mandatory for 27.7 miles between 2 miles west of Kyburz, Calif. and SR 89.

US Highway 395 " High wind advisory in Washoe Valley. Campers and trailers are not advised.

Snow tires or chains required for 21.2 miles between Washoe Hill, south of Reno, and 0.3 miles north of Lemmon Valley Exit 74.

Today's weather will be windy with occasional snow and rain in the morning and scattered snow showers in the afternoon with snow level near the valley floor. Highs 31-41; west winds 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph in the morning.

Tonight, mostly cloudy with scattered snow showers in the evening then isolated snow showers after midnight.
