Carson City


Volunteers sought to attend event to honor troops


Carson City Chapter, Operation First Response, is looking for volunteers to help with an all-day, citywide benefit to honor our troops and support the wounded. The event will be on Armed Forces Day, May 17.


The city of Carson City will team up with the group for a parade and many events, including a dinner at the Governor's Mansion. For information, call 841-1989.




GOP presidential candidate to appear


Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter will be at the Gold Dust West Casino from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday. He will be accompanied by retired General Chuck Yeager, Medal of Honor recipient.

Parents of chronically ill children to meet


Resource meeting for Parents with Chronically Ill Children will meet from 6- 7 p.m. Monday at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, 1600 Medical Parkway, in the Bristlecone Room.


This is a great opportunity to network with parents dealing with similar issues.

Local artists exhibit in Minden


Artisans International Gallery will present an exhibit of work by local artists beginning Jan. 8. The exhibit and sale offers the theme "Love Me Tender."


An artists' reception with light refreshments will be held from 3 - 5 p.m. Jan. 12.

Sparks casino plans New Year's party


The Celebrity Showroom at John Ascuaga's Nugget will transform into a discotheque New Year's Eve with the sounds of Disco Inferno and the M-80s. The celebration continues on the casino floor with a complimentary champagne toast at midnight.


Disco Inferno will get the party started with classic '70s disco hits, followed by the M-80s performing favorites from the '80s. The dance party will begin at a special show time of 9 p.m. and tickets are $35.


The Casino Cabaret will be another hub of New Year's revelry, featuring live music, a complimentary champagne toast during the countdown, and a DJ until 4 a.m.


John Shipley from Hiroshima will play live in the Orozko Lounge from 8 p.m. to 12:15 a.m.

MontBleu plans New Year's events


New Year's Eve entertainment in the MontBleu Theatre will feature The Magic of Rick Thomas in the 1,400-seat theater beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets are $25 through Sunday and $35 on Monday, available by calling (800) 648-3353 or www.ticketmaster.com.


MontBleu Resort will feature "Midnight Blu," with all night in-and-out privileges beginning at 8 p.m. at Opal Ultra Lounge, Blu Nightclub, and the resort's 14,000 square-foot Convention Center.


The Convention Center blow-out starts at 10 p.m. with live music from "Afrodisiacs" presented by Boogie Nights and balloons dropping at midnight.


All parties include free-flowing champagne, party favors and a New Year's Eve countdown.
